No doubt about it. Worship ministry is lots of work. We plan. We rehearse. We even rehearse for our rehearsal (or at least we should). Between all the time spent in our various rehearsals, sound checks, and services, members of our team spend around 12 hours per week in dedication to leading worship. That is to say, if you sing or play in our AM services, PM service, and Midweek service along with the regular rehearsals and sound checks you will have the equivalent of a part time job. Are you tired yet?
We make no secret about this sacrifice in time that we all make to do what we love, worship Jesus. We want to offer God our very best, so we prepare. In all our musical preparation, let's never forget that the most important preparation does not happen in our rehearsals. The most vital prep happens in the quiet of your time with God. There is no substitute for a prepared spirit. We may stand before the people of FirstNLR confident in every word and every note of every song. That's a wonderful thing, but it's not the main thing. Unless we lead worship from a place of intimacy with God, it's just noise...performance.
